Here is the part from my /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier "Generic Keyboard"
        Driver "kbd"
        Option "CoreKeyboard"
        Option "SendCoreEvents"
        Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
        Option "XkbLayout" "us"
EndSection
changing rules to xfree86 didn't help, changing Layout didn't work too.
Only solution i got, was running xorg with parm -kb (i found this hint on some forums with same problem happening with XFree86.

oh, i was mistaken. Making the symlink obviously doesn't have any consequnces on this problem. So forget the second part :)

Same problem, but I made a clean install.

it works if downgraded to dapper xkeyboard-config.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.
