Bug Description

I'm running Dapper Drake (6.06) on a 1'5GHz Pentium-M . If I use an i686 kernel xorg makes the CPU be always at 100%, but not with an i386 kernel. So I'm not sure if this is a xorg bug or a kernel one.

This morning it was at 100% again, but with the i386 kernel.

I also go this today on HP nw8240 with ATI FireGL V5000 PCI-Express running Kubuntu Dapper up-to-date. I am testing dapper for some time (since Flight2), but most of the time with fglrx driver. Last week I am running with "ati" driver and this was the first time I have seen it. Machine was running fine for 7 hours (since reboot) and then Xorg load just increased. First I thought it was firefox, but even closing all applications besides KDE did not cure it.

Marcos: please report information about your graphic card and which driver you use in your X server.

Hi
I use dapper beta and i've the same error.
I'm on amd64 with k8 kernel and Xorg uses about 50% of the cpu all the time that my laptop is running.

I don't remember the same in Breezy

My laptop has an Intel chip. I'm not at home so I can´t tell the model. I'm using the i386 kernel and it works fine. This weekend I'll try the i586 one again and I'll tell you.

I have the same problem here on an old PIII 933 with a voodoo 3 card and running Xubuntu.
Every morning xorg uses 100% cpu.
already tried to switch compositing on and off or screensaver on and off. no result.
every morning 100%

Please try to reproduce this with 7.10 or Hardy. Then attach the Xorg.0.log and try to get a gdb backtrace of the Xorg process.

I'm still having this problem with Hardy and fglrx. I've added Monit to the system to try to understand when (overnight) and under what conditions the problem develops.

Since it's been a very long time since any additional info was added to this bug, I'm just checking to see if this is still an issue, and find out what additional work should be done on this bug.
