Ubuntu Kernel Delta Review

Registered by Andy Whitcroft

Review of the current Ubuntu Kernel delta. This session will look at the current delta comprised of both patches to the core and the ubuntu specific drivers. The aim is to record what we are carrying, review the reasons for that component(s) to be carried, and recommend replacements, updates, cleanups, upstreaming etc of those components.

Whiteboard

Status:
All 19 of the 19 personal patch reviews are now done, and all of the outcomes applied. Some work remains on compcache which is now superceeded by zram in staging, but some userspace work is required to switch to it.

Status Bits (things done since last status rollup):

Old Status:
- 18 of the 19 personal patch reviews are now done. Some work remains on compcache which is now superceeded by zram in staging, but some userspace work is required to switch to it.
- 16 of the 19 personal patch reviews are now done. Some work remains on compcache which is now superceeded by zram in staging, but some userspace work is required to switch to it. Nothing else of interest occuring.
- 15 of the 19 personal patch reviews are now done. All of the ubuntu drivers are now updated and reviewed. Some work remains on compcache which is now superceeded by zram in staging, but some userspace work is required to switch to it.
- 14 of the 19 personal patch reviews are now done. All of the Ubuntu drivers are now pulled up to the latest versions, where necessary they are ported to v2.6.37, and re-enabled for testing. Some work remains on the compcache which appears to be replaced by a mainline kernel driver.
- 14 of the 19 personal patch reviews are now done. The remainder have been pushed out to natty-alpha-2, but none are release critical.
- A number of small changes dropping old no longer required patches. 13 of the 19 personal patch reviews are now done. Some of these are likely to miss the natty-alpha-1 deadline, but none are release critical for the milestone.
- aufs2 updated to official 2.6.37-rcN release from upstream. LIRC patches dropped to clean up the delta. 6 of the 21 personal patch reviews are now done. Some of these are likely to miss the natty-alpha-1 deadline, but none are release critical for the milestone.
- aufs2 update is uploaded and tested good for live cd use. Reviews of upstreamable patches procceding well with a number closed out. Items scheduled for natty-alpha-1 are on track.
- Work has started on updating the Ubuntu drivers. Work centers on updating aufs2 which is a blocker for(performant) live-cds. Pulled in an experimental version of aufs2 for testing in v2.6.36. Also pulled this up to v2.6.37-rc1 and did some testing. Looking good so far. Work items assigned to the individual engineers for upstreaming.
