Important (Wine Autostart 1.0 only)!

Written for Wine Autostart by Hamish McIntyre-Bhatty on 2014-04-17

Please make sure python-appindicator is installed before running this app, as it otherwise won't work. This dependency issue appears because newer versions of ubuntu don't include python-appindicator by default. Note: This is fixed in 2.0~rc1 and newer.

Stable version released!

Now completely rewritten in python, Wine Autostart is faster and more reliable than ever! It now has its own icon, and has the ability to ignore disks if asked as well, rather than waiting for 10 minutes.

1.0 stable well underway!

So far, the new version (in active development) is performing much better than the previous versions, even though it has quite a few new features! Currently, it uses ~10MB RAM, and less than 100MHz processing power (maximum), so like DDRescue-GUI, it'll run on almost anything made in the last 10 years. It now also displays the status in the indicator!

Dropping support for Ubuntu Lucid (10.04)

Written for Wine Autostart by Hamish McIntyre-Bhatty on 2013-09-14

Previous releases of Wine Autostart (0.7 - 0.9) partially worked with Ubuntu Lucid, but I'm sad to say the new version will not work with ubuntu 10.04, unless the user upgrades to python 2.7 rather than 2.6. Like DDRescue-GUI, it's now going to be written almost entirely in Python, and it will use features that aren't available with python 2.6. However, it will now update the status in the indicator itself and the indicator now works with gnome (version 2 tested, should support gnome 3), Unity, LXDE, XFCE, but not KDE at the current time. It should work with any desktop environment that supports WINE and GTK. The list of required external commands and dependencies will be much reduced with the move to python.

Okay, perhaps that was a bit optimistic!

It's the summer holidays, so I've decided to take a break from this for a while. I've found a set of issues to fix which'll delay the realease anyhow. It's hard to tell when it'll be finished, but I want it to be perfect, so don't hold your breath! Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience.
