Zene is a media player which have the particularity of depending only on plugins. Without plugins, Zene is just a stupid plugin loader that have nothing to load but when you give it some extensions to eat it becomes a fabulous media player that perfectly suits your needs.
Zene is written in C++ and is based on the excellent Qt library. The sources are distributed under the GNU LGPL. It is still under development and there is no download link yet.
Most of the medias players are able to play several media files, be it musics or videos. But all too often, the separation between musics an videos is not decent. Whereas Zene let you choose to activate the music plugin, the video plugin or both of them. As the managment of musics and videos is separated, each plugin is designed to provide a perfectly adapted interface for what it is supposed to do.
The core of Zene is designed in such a way that you can create plugins and interact with the core very easily. You can extend Zene or even other plugins and add over and over again great functionalities. The only limit is your imagination.
