nvidia_295.59_x86_64 for 12.04
PPA description
nvidia driver 295.59
- with patch nvidia-blacklist-vga-pmu-registers-256-304.diff from ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/patches/security/2012-08-01/
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:morgancoxuk/ppa-12.04-nvidia-295.59-x86-64
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current
Also there are changes to framebuffer which will cause an issue with 295.59+ unless you also add the following line
GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=text
to /etc/default/grub
Then use
sudo update-grub2
(this will lose the boot graphic which sucks anyway for Nvidia driver users - its their fault for not opensourcing their driver - which has lead Linus to say nasty things about them)
After installing (and rebooting) load 'additional drivers' (from kde/unity menu) - and check you using the nvidia-current-updates package (not nvidia-current)
