Hi,
I'm a physicist working both in gas discharge physics and ionizing radiation detection.

I've been using Linux for some years (maybe since 1998...) and Kubuntu since November, 2006 and I've not looked back. My previous experience was with RPM based distributions.

Aside doing physics I enjoy programming and development of algorithms. My preferred programming languages are Fortran 90/95 (where I frequently use Object Oriented Methodologies) and Python.
As a contribution to the Open Source community I've developed a chemical kinetics library directed to plasma physics modelling. The source code and a manual can be obtained through the CPC library: http://www.cpc.cs.qub.ac.uk/summaries/ADNH_v1_0.html.
An article describing the code has been published by Elsevier as N.R. Pinhao, Comput. Phys. Commun. 135 (2001) 105
I'm currently finishing a Linux device driver for an old ISA MCB (multichannel board) for gamma spectrometry. I don't think it won't be very useful anymore with present PCI computers but it has been fun and it allows us to re-use old equipment in classrooms. It will also be released (if anybody will be interested) as Open Source.
I've also done some experiments with parallel computing, building small Beowulf clusters. One of the funniest was a cluster build on a "Science on Holidays" program with 3 high school students and using 16 486 processors. It was a good leaning experience (and I've converted them to Linux) and in the end we were able to make small movies of the movement of planetary systems.

In my free time I try to understand this world and to "build a better one". This lose definition includes reading, travelling, art cinema and theatre, information digging and social activism.

If you are interest on any of my activities or share common interests, feel free to drop a line.
