Update (1 Oct 2022): PyQt6 is now available so the Qt 6.2.4 stack is done!
Update (27 Aug 2022): Success with Qt6 WebEngine (has a custom version of Chromium browser) builds today & the Qt 6.2.4 stack is mostly completed!
Update (21 Aug 2022): An initial minimal set of Qt 6.2.4 packages is ready for simple builds (ie. OBS Studio 28.0-rc) not needing the whole Qt stack.
*** Install ***
NOTES FOR ALL: To configure the appearance (styles and themes) of all Qt 6 applications qt6ct is required (same function as qt5ct for Qt 5). Do this:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:savoury1/qt-6-2
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install qt6ct
Unfortunately, available theme support for Qt 6 is very limited thus far. However, a simple clean look can be achieved with the GTK 2 theme support:
sudo apt-get install qt6-gtk2-
The above qt6-gtk2-
Or for those who like the default theme Adwaita for GNOME desktop do this:
sudo apt-get install adwaita-qt6
Note for Xenial, Bionic & Focal: WebEngine components require FFmpeg 4.4.x so an additional PPA is required. Before installing WebEngine components:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:savoury1/
sudo apt-get update
Notes for Jammy: It is recommended (though not required) to add the FFmpeg 4.4.x PPA above, for a better build of FFmpeg with the latest codecs, etc.
Also, while the Qt 6 stack here is generally the same source (or upstream) versions as found in official Jammy repositories there are improvements to the packaging at this PPA. For instance, all packages with public modules (ie. that are able to be referenced by other software builds) include the pkg-config files, via cherry-picking a Qt 6.3 commit for qt6-base. Having pkg-config files is mainly of interest to developers who can then choose to use pkg-config rather than CMake to find required build dependencies.
Of particular interest to Jammy users: qt6ct, qt6gtk2, and adwaita-qt. As described above qt6ct is key to configuring the styles and themes of Qt 6 applications. Only Ubuntu 22.10 Kinetic (to be released in October 2022) has qt6ct in the official repositories. Secondly, qt6gtk2 is currently not packaged in Debian/Ubuntu at all (again see the notes above for all users) and this package helps achieve a simple clean look for Qt 6 applications.
Thirdly, official adwaita-qt for 22.04 Jammy is only built for Qt 5.15 not Qt 6.2 while the build of that package here is only for Qt 6.2 (not Qt 5). Thus, Jammy users who would like to use the Adwaita theme with Qt 6.2 can do so by using this PPA for the "improved" versions of Qt 6.2.4 packages.
