Glendix
PPA description
Glendix (www.glendix.org) is a set of Linux kernel patches aiming for Plan9 kernel capabilities. Plan9 was designed by the original creators of UNIX as the successor of UNIX (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plan9). For various reasons, this did not happen but Plan9 still serves as an important research operating system and concepts originally developed in Plan9 have later been introduced in *nix operating systems (such as the /proc file system). Current patches implement syscalls to run some Plan9 binaries unmodified on a glendix kernel (currently x86 only) but work is under way to implement more advanced features such as the /net and /dev/draw file systems and private namespaces.
Patches to a vanilla linux kernel source can be obtained through: hg clone http://hg.glendix.org/glendix/
or through Gentoo Portage Overlay sunrise sys-kernel/glendix-sources
