PPA description

Make the Ubuntu installer safer : automatically backup the MBR of all disks when installing Ubuntu.

The MBR backups created by Clean-Ubiquity can :
- be restored in 1 click by the user via Boot-Repair ( ), in order to restore the access to Windows. (if MBR locked)
- or can be used by OS-Uninstaller ( )

it requires 2 preseeds that must be included by the ISO-maker. See or contact me if you want to integrate it in your distro.

It is included in Ubuntu Secured Remix ( ) and some Ubuntu derivatives (e.g. Linux Hybryde, Voyager 11.04).

*** Technical details ***
No visual change compared to the "normal" installer.
1) before installation, keeps in memory a backup of the 63 first sectors of each disk
2) launch the "normal" installer (ubiquity) (which by default installs GRUB into the MBR)
3) at the end of the installation, copy the backups into each OS (/var/log/clean folder for Linuxs or /clean for other OSs)
