Bug Description

After updating unity with ppa:timo-jyrinki/prerelease, the GUI components wont launch, all i get is the background and the shortcuts on desktop, no launcher or the top bar what ever that is called. allso alt+tab dont work or Alt L to launch HUD. but other shortcuts like ctrl+alt+t works fine

Please:
  1. Ctrl+Alt+T to open a terminal.
  2. Run: pidof compiz
  3. Do you get any output?
  4. Attach a copy of the file: ~/.xession-errors

Fredrik,

The issue seems to be that you have a version of unity installed that's not compatible with your version of compiz (somehow). Not sure what's wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's just a problem with ppa:timo-jyrinki/prerelease ...

You do not have unity installed. It must have got removed due to some package conflict. first make sure unity is installed.

Yeah you are right unity is not installed. but i cant install it...

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

I have the exact same problem, eventhough i have no other ppa installed. compiz is started just fine and unity seems to be installed. There is no compiz error in the xsession-errors.log but a lot of Gtk-WARNING, about css files that could no be parsed.

The first line is interessing:
org.gtk.vfs.MountTracker.listMountableInfo call failed: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: Keine derartige Schnittstelle »org.gtk.vfs.MountTracker« des Objekts im Pfad /org/gtk/vfs/mounttracker (g-dbus-error-quark, 19)

as well as:
** Message: applet now removed from the notification area
** Message: using fallback from indicator to GtkStatusIcon

I also tried to login as guest, which works but I get a lot of graphical issues:
