Bug Description

I bought a HP DV6248eu laptop with AMD Turion 64 X2 processor, 2048Mb memory, NVIDIA® GeForceTM Go 6150 Video Card.

When I insert the Feisty Fawn Live CD, I get the error: Bios Bug. Thers is no newer version of my Bios.
Then I get pages of errors and the system freezes. I got the same kind of problems with the older versions of Ubuntu.

The model is launched feb 2007.

Hello,

Thanks fore asking.
I recently did a clean install of Gutsy. The problem with the biosbug
still exists.
I can/have to install Ubuntu with the bootoption 'noapic'. Once
installed, I don't need that option anymore.
Due to that option my USB isn't hotpluggable. When for example I want to
use an USB stick or extra mouse, I have to plug the stick in before
switching the laptop on.
Besides that, my laptop works fine with Ubuntu.

When I don't use any option, my laptop freezes with a black screen
during the booting process (with the live cd).

With kind regards,

Ronald van Dijken

Hi Ronaldus,

The Hardy Heron Alpha2 release should be coming out shortly. It will have an updated version of the kernel. It would be great if you could verify if this issue still exists in this newer release. I'll be sure to update this report when Alpha2 is available. Thanks!

Hardy Heron Alpha2 was recently released. It contains an updated version of the kernel. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron Alpha2 release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/alpha-2/ . You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If you can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results. General information regarding the release can also be found here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/hardy/alpha2 . Thanks!

I started my laptop with Hardy Heron Alpha2 release.
Bug #81[49435000] still exists. However I didn't have to use the option
'noapic'.
One (another?) minor issue: the scroll function of my touchpad did not
work.

Thanks for testing and the update Ronaldus. It appears that the issue this bug report is about (the Bios Bug error) is resolved with the newer Hardy Alpha2 release. As a result I'm going to close this report as resolved for the newer release. Please feel free to open a new bug report regarding the scrolling issue with your touchpad. Thanks!
