Bug Description

DBeaver is a Universal Database Manager that provides a GUI that allows you to connect and manage several different brands of databases from one workbench. It really ought to be showcased in Ubuntu Software Center and installable with the following command:

sudo apt-get install dbeaver

However, this wonderful application isn't in the repositories; we should get it in there.

It is under the GPL license and can be found here:

Please package this! The current deb installer doesn't get the permissions quite right; you have to run dbeaver with sudo or the menus get corrupted:

If we could get this packaged correctly by Trusty 14.04, I'll be thrilled.

Dbeaver scratches a big itch in Ubuntu, because you can connect to almost any type of database with it. I use it at work constantly. Its a super application; it's way better than any other db tool I've ever used. You can manage all your different databases from one Management Console (mysql, MSSQL, db2, and many more).

The deb installer is located here:

There is only one modification that must be made to the installer, and it is discussed here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1218687

Basically, the launcher icon must indicate UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0:

Skeewiff (marcelo-pm) wrote 12 hours ago: #12

A workaround:

sudo gedit /usr/share/applications/dbeaver.desktop

Replace:
Exec=/usr/share/dbeaver/dbeaver

With:
Exec=env UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0 /usr/share/dbeaver/dbeaver
