I see the same behaviour here. However as soon as I add a bookmark to the new category it shows up in the bookmarks menu.
Maybe this behaviour is intended and empty categories are not shown? That makes sense to me, since categories without any bookmarks are quite useless.

Thank you for your bug. Does adding a bookmark to the category make it being used correctly?

Yes that seems to be the trick, however my categories were not empty
when I made them.
After adding one extra bookmark the category gets ¨activated¨

Thanks for the help

Yes
But removing the added entry also removes the category.
So it seems that only bookmarks created by epiphany itself lets a category exists.

The bug description is not clear. How do you add bookmarks not created by epiphany? Could you describe easy steps to trigger the bug?

By importing them from mozilla and opera

Import from mozilla and most categories wont show, adding one bookmark
to the category wil activate the category and now al bookmarks
originating from an other browser wil show up also. Removing the
bookmark added by epiphany wil remove the category from the bookmarklist
but it will remain ¨hidden¨ an can be activated again by adding a
bookmark again to the category.
It seems that imported bookmarks are treated different, so it seems an
import problem.

Please tell me where to send the mozilla bookmark file.
And please tell me where to find the epiphany bookmark file.

You can attach the mozilla bookmark file to http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454275 or on this webpage. Beware that your bookmark file will be viewable to the world, including any personal bookmarks.

The epiphany bookmarks file can be found in .gnome2/epiphany/ephy-bookmarks.xml (you may need to enable "view hidden files" to find it.

this is a direct consequence of the design of the application, this in words of one of the developers of epiphany-browser, so is not a ubuntu related bug, if you still think this is a bug and not a feature, please add your comments at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454275.

please let me rephrase that, this bug it is indeed present in ubuntu, but the application works this way because a design decision, so it would make more sense to comment this particular bug at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454275 where the developers could find it more easily
