wifi configured and working in debian-installer, but not after installation at first boot

Bug Description

I just installed using the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS server installation. On this "server", the wifi interface should be the primary network interface. I was surprised and pleased that wireless networking "just worked" in the installer, conveniently prompting me for the ESSID and WPA2 passphrase.

However, after the installation completed, and I rebooted into my new server, wlan0 is not configured in /etc/network/interfaces, nor is wpa_supplicant configuration anywhere to be found in /etc.

I would have expected the network configuration I selected in the installer to have persisted.

The installed should implement one of the suggested solutions on http://askubuntu.com/questions/464507/ubuntu-14-04-server-wifi-wpa2-personal, for example, in /etc/network/interfaces put something like:

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-ssid <your_router>
wpa-psk <your_wpa_key>
