Kernel version: 3.13.0-23-generic (Ubuntu14.04 Server Daily)

Details:
Ubuntu server 14.04 can't boot up after UEFI installation, the screen is freeze, but system can response to "Ctrl + Alt + F(1-7)".

the Graphic ID:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cedar [Radeon HD 5000/6000/7350/8350 Series] [1002:68f9]

Xiong - is this an issue _during_ installation, or afterwards ? I've just installed 14.04 server which _does_ have /lib/firmware/radeon/CEDAR*. I can imagine that these files do not exists during installation as they are not in the kernel udebs.

If CEDAR firmware is boot essential, then this bug affects linux.

This is an issue afterwards UEFI installation. It is strange that you can see radeon firmware but I can't see any radeon firmware on my system.
I am using the ISO from http://www.ubuntu.com/download/server and under UEFI (not legacy) installation, there is no radeon firmware in /lib/firmware.

This makes no sense to me. linux-firmware is a dependency of linux-image-3.13.0-24-generic , and therefore seeded in main. Just to be clear, I installed using http://releases.ubuntu.com/trusty/ubuntu-14.04-server-amd64.iso

Is this repeatable ?

Using the image your provided, I do legacy installation and UEFI installation on my system. Then I found many firmwares were missed after uefi installation.
You can compare the /lib/firmware between uefi installed system and legacy installed system.

@XiongZhang -- could you get a "dpkg -V linux-firmware" on the EFI system for us, and could you get a "dpkg -S" for a firware file which is present on the legacy install and not on the efi one please. Please put the info in this bug. If you could also get a "dpkg -l" list for both installs that might tell us something.

@XiongZhang -- also could we get some info on the root filesystem in each. "df -h /" and an "ls -lL" on the device that indicates.

I think I understand the problem. No package in the linux-signed-generic chain of dependencies actually depends on linux-firmware.

Hello XiongZhang, or anyone else affected,

Accepted linux-meta into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-meta/3.13.0.24.30 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance!

First I enable proposed repository, then I am dist-upgrade my system which install linux-firmware package. Next my system can boot up normally. linux-meta-3.13.0.24.30 can solve my issue.

But how can I get a ISO installation image which contain this package ? Without it, I think system still can't boot up default after uefi installation.
