Bug Description
Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22
On my MacBook (First Generation, Intel Core Duo), in both Feisty and Gutsy any kind of keyboard or mouse activity (even so much as moving the mouse) causes an extremely high amount of CPU wakeups as displayed using PowerTOP 1.8. As a result, my processor ends up running at high frequencies (i.e. max CPU speed) far more than it should be.
On Debian unstable, keyboard/mouse usage causes FAR less wakeups than on Ubuntu. This is with the Debian 2.6.22 stock kernel and the same drivers loaded for my hardware. I figure Debian's patchset must have a fix for the excessive CPU wakeups which Ubuntu's patchset doesn't include. If this is the case, could this be added to the Ubuntu kernel? I may look into it in the near future myself, but would appreciate it if developers could investigate this if there is an opportunity.
Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this bug to the new "linux" package. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http:// www.ubuntu. com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
