Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz-plugins

When I am activate the compiz shift plugin, the preview images only display for a few seconds (usually until the initial animation completes), then vanish. The bar at the bottom of the screen with the window titles still shows and changes as I tab through the windows, but the remainder of the screen is blank. This happens in both cover and flip modes. The ring and standard switchers work fine, so this seems to be isolated to this specific plugin rather than a video driver issue. This is a Dell Vostro with Intel 965M graphics card.

This seems to happen only when the regular application switcher plugin is enabled.

Hi, I can confirm this bug with the same graphic card (Intel 965GM) and with Ubuntu Gutsy on an HP laptop 6720s. When switching through windows, the first 2 or 3 windows switch correctly, then more TAB pressing results only in a empty screen, with the normal background and the reflection on the bottom of the screen.
There's a way to bypass the problem: deactivating the reflection this plugin works correctly, with no empty screens at all. Since I had no problems with cube-reflection or expo-reflection, I assume that this is a matter of this specific plugin, not of the handling of the reflection itself.

This bug also exists on my HP 6510b laptop. If I turn the reflection off the swither works as normal.

I am experiencing the same bug on my desktop, and seem to have the same graphic card:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82Q963/Q965 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)

When I use the plugin, the preview images only display for a few seconds, like with elyk. If I switch through the windows really fast, I can see some of the animation working before the preview images disappear. I think it takes the same amount of time if I switch through really fast or if I switch only once and hold the "Super" button. But unlike elyk, this happens to me whether I have the regular application switcher plugin on or off.

I don't know if it helps, but here is a list of the plugins I have on:
- Desktop cube
- Rotate cube
- Show desktop
- Animations
- Paint fire on the screen
- Window decoration
- Wobbly windows
- JPEG, Png, Svg and Text
- Cube caps
- Dbus
- Regex Matching
- Resize Info
- Video playback
- Workarounds
- Move window
- Place windows
- Scale
- Shift Switcher
- Snapping Windows
- Resize Window

Even I'm using a Dell Vostro like eylk and facing the same problem. The problem doesn't disappear if i remove the standard application switcher. It disappears after I disable reflections in the shift switcher. I just started facing this problem. I wasn't facing it during the first few hours of using compiz fusion.

Update :
- The problem disappears after I disable reflections in the shift switcher option (in ccsm) like other people
- If y replace compiz with : `metacity --replace` and then relaunch : `compiz --replace` the problem disappears (with reflection activated) until a new application window appears ...

I have the same problem, also using a Intel GMA X3100 / GM965. Disabling reflections does not solve my problem, but disabling the application switcher (ALT+TAB) does. Enabling or disabling reflections (which I have disabled, since it causes my title bars to disappear) have no effect on the Shift Switcher plugin.

I'm also having the this exact problem, but ONLY after I switch workspaces - it works fine with reflection until then. Disabling shift switcher reflection fixes it. I can also run "compiz --replace" to get it to work until I switch workspaces again. I'm curious if it is this way (after workspace switch) for anyone else....

I have Intel GMA x3100 graphics on a Dell 1420 series Inspiron laptop.

I have the exactly problem as Jonathan, it works fine with reflection on as long as I don't switch workspaces. And turning off reflection fixes the problem.

My computer is an Acer Aspire 5315, it has a GMA X3100/GL960.

Is there any way to fix this bug without disabling reflection?

I've been testing the Hardy alphas and the beta 1 release with a live disc and Hardy Beta 1 seems to have the problem fixed for me. I don't know how it works once installed though....
