Bug Description

Everything is beautiful, 7 steps ...
(I use the destop/i386 CD-RW.)
"Files copied" (step?)
...but this is the end of installation.
...reboot -> not boot

grub is not installed to /target (sda10)
mbr is not modified
no any question "boot from mbr or from sda10" in the end of the installation

This sda have one XP and a "7.10 tribe 3" a "7.10 daily build"
and a "Suse 10.1"

I tries 2 times to install to sda10 (is in extended chain)

/boot olny have 6 files, don't have the grub's folder

regression: Manual partitioner don't allow "not mount" option (partition hiding)

What happens when you put in the Live CD and select: Boot from First Hard Disk?

GRUB has problems (sometimes) detecting multiple operating systems and selecting the correct boot parameters in menu.lst or grub.conf. Sometimes you have to manually edit them to get GRUB to find all of the OS's loaded. The forums (search GRUB) have multiple examples of changes to try.

conclusion: I never use anymore the desktop "live" CD for myself.
(Alternate CD is good for installing grub to any place and hiding partitions.)

Marking to Confirmed. Reporter found work around using Alternate CD to achieve successful install. Could have been a RAM issue. If you run out of RAM (256 to 384 MB required for Live CD installation) then installation can run into errors. Alternate CD uses less RAM.

Can you confirm this with a supported Ubuntu version? Thank you!
