Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I am using Ubuntu 7.10 on Laptop HP Compaq 6710s (Core2Duo 2GHz, intel 965 graphics).
After wake up from suspend to ram, screen is very dark but I can see that there is something on screen... kind of like the backlight on the laptop didn't light up... so i put my password in, and only when I press a key to change brightnes screen lights up and is normal again (it is enough to press the button once).

If you need more information please ask because I am new and I don't know what log files do you need.

Same on a HP 2510p (intermittently, possibly timing-dependent).

Matthew Garrett tells me that "you can work around it by adding a script to /etc/acpi/suspend.d that saves the value in /sys/class/backlight/whatever/brightness and one in resume.d that writes it back (do this after the video reinit stuff but before 65-console.sh)". Presumably it would be harmless to add such a script to the package to catch the various cases where this doesn't happen automatically.

Hmm, my /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness is empty... so I guess that workaround wouldn't work.

Confirm this bug on a HP 6710b. Also for me it doesn't happen always, but oftentimes.

If somebody could post the workaround script, that would be great.

This bug also concerns the HP Compaq 6720s with Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100.

On my Samsung Q45 with Intel X3100 graphics I don't even have anything in: /sys/class/backlight/

Any other idea for a workaround?

seems to be no progress in this question....
In such situation i see 2 solutions.
1. try to update power manager ( in my case Kpowersave )
2. try to update to new kernel ( more probable solution )

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this bug to the new "linux" package. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!

Per a decision made by the Ubuntu Kernel Team, bugs will longer be assigned to the ubuntu-kernel-team in Launchpad as part of the bug triage process. The ubuntu-kernel-team is being unassigned from this bug report. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies for more information. Thanks.
