Bug Description
first, i use linux from time to time and i've installed a few debians. i'm used to fdisk and i know how to create useful partitions!
while installing from the livecd (7.10) with the X install, i came across the partition page.
due to the fact i am very new to the ubuntu installer (never used a X installer to install a linux), i wasn't aware this page and thought to select my hdd is the first step and it will ask me later, how i want to create my partitions. but instead of this, it created a single partition on my whole hdd.
it was designed to do so ok, but i lost most of the data on my hdd because of this. got only a few partitions back with the gpart stuff.
partitioning is not just about installing a single program or something like this. its a major decision!!
so, i think there is some kind of warning sign needed there. which explains you how to handle this.
and even a "are you sure you want to do this?" which shows you what happens next to your hdd!
the small "manual" button is something you only see (and use) if you know what it wants from you.
thx
Thanks for taking time report this bug.
When you install Ubuntu, Ubiquity asks you what type of partitioning you want to use: guided or manual. Guided has some options: use the biggest free space, replace the current linux partition, ... and something like to remove all data.
I think you have chosen the wrong option, so I'm going to mark this bug as invalid.
Feel free to tell me if I didn't understood the problem!
