Bug Description

I am currently running kubuntu gutsy, but this bug was also happening on feisty, i am using an intel 102GGC2 motherboard with a 3.0 Ghz CPU with HT, 1 Gb of RAM (667 MHz) i have a winfast px7300 LE video card. after a clean install of gutsy everything works fine till i install the nvidia drivers, the system will show usplash at startup and the progress bar would reach the end, and instead of seeing the graphical boot screen i see a console one. i log in, but any attempt to startx would end up with a series of errors all circling around that there is no nvidia gpu found. at first i used to reinstall the driver and then do "sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart", but then something amazed me, is that when i start the driver install, and i click accept for the license, it would tell me there is a driver and that it is going to be overwritten, if i say no, the installer exits and restarting kdm works fine. meaning that without any reinstallation happening kdm worked! im sorry for not any copy of the error messages.

This is most probably an issue with the nvidia driver. Still, Kubuntu 8.04 comes with a feature called bulletproof-X which means that even if the nvidia driver is stupid again and wants to stop you from using KDE, X will fallback to either nv or vesa (i.e. lowlevel) so you have basic functionality to restore some backup etc.
