Bug Description
I just installed Ubuntu 7.10. After login the desktop stops taking any input (such as mouse clicks or keyboard actions), also the mouse icon freezes. I can move the mouse, but I cannot do anything with it. Also buttons don't highlight if I move the mouse over them.
The problem appears just a few seconds after opening any window. No matter if it is Firefox, Audio setup or the package update window.
Please contact me ASAP if you need more information: <email address hidden> ; This problem is really annoying, since it makes the usage of Ubuntu 7.1 impossible...

Hi! I had this bug with my brand new computer w/ ubuntu 7.04. It was a bug of the kernel (with asus m2v) now with the 2.6.23 it's working perfectly. However you can try to add the options noacpi & noapic to your kernel boot line, in grub.conf or for the first run in grub.
By the way, did-you tried a memtest?
Good luck
