Bug Description
This is a problem I cannot definitively explain :( I have an nvidia card and the latest driver from nvidia. I have several accounts in the system. the main account resolution matches the KDM login screen *both* are 1680x1050. the other accounts have lower resolutions. here is the problem.
the accounts with lower resolutions will not see a splash screen or there desktops if they log in to the system after someone else. if no user is logged into the system and one of the users with a lower resolution log in first, they will see the splash screen and their desktops (no problem). So, if your resolution is lower than 1680x1050 and you log in after anyone else, you'll see no splashscreen and won't see your desktop. I've managed to find a workaround that has something to do with the screensaver.
1. create a screenreset.sh file in the /home/<
2. put the following without quotes into that file: 'xdg-screensaver reset &'
3. chmod +x /home/<
4. log the user out and log back in...
5. you will not see the splashscreen *but* once that file is executed, you'll see your desktop
If you don't like the above work around for any reason, here is another. you can switch to any console and switch back and you should at least see your desktop.
not sure what is happening here. any clues or confirmation would be very much appreciated!
Original report is in regards to Kubuntu 7.10.
