Bug Description

Tested on 7.10 with default kernel for AMD/EMT 64 systems:
Linux segfault-delly 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Sun Oct 14 21:45:15 GMT 2007 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Fully reproductable:

Press 'power button' on desktop (upper right corner in default configuration).
Choose to hibernate
Close the laptop lid and wait for the hibernate action to take effect
Open laptop to reach power button, press it once (like when you turn it on)
Close lid
Wait a few seconds (~10-20s)
Et voila - Screen locked in 'blacker than black' state, some response from keyboard
presses (ie: I have managed to get a bell or two pressing the backspace/delete key but not consistently)
but otherwise a completely irresponsive system.

I will be attaching some files.

Hi Reynaldo,

I just wanted to let you know the Hardy Heron Alpha series was recently released. Alpha2 and subsequent releases contain an updated version of the kernel. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron Alpha release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/ . Note that Alpha3 will be out in the next few days so you may want to wait. Unfortunately, you can only test Suspend from the LiveCD, not Hibernate. However, if you have a spare partition or something and feel like installing and testing the newer release, would you verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results. General information regarding the release can also be found here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks!

A task against the actively developed kernel has been opened so we're closing the task against linux-source-2.6.22. Thanks!

I am using Gusty Gibbon. So what can I do if I don't want to update to an alpha version (Hardy Heron)?

cYberc, not closing the lid while resuming is an option I'd consider if I were you ;)

Sorry reynaldo, but I don't really get what you mean. What I do: I click on "hibernate" or "suspend". The system goes down like it should, but I cannot wake up the system anymore. Only thing I can do is to press the power button for 10 seconds (force shutdown), boot the system and wait approx. 5 minutes until the forced fsck is finished ;-).
