Bug Description

Can't detect sound card anymore after latest update to linux-kernel 2.6.24-12-i386

System:

Hardy alpha 5 and updated regularly
Dell Inspiron 1520
C2D 7600 2.2 GHz
3 MB RAM

$ cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu hardy (development branch)"

$ cat /proc/asound/cards
cat: /proc/asound/cards: No such file or directory

$ lsmod | grep snd
snd_page_alloc 10504 0

I can confirm this problem.

When checking dmesg it shows lots of unknown symbols:

[ 19.110734] snd: Unknown symbol unregister_sound_special
[ 19.110893] snd: Unknown symbol register_sound_special_device

[ 19.443464] snd_timer: Unknown symbol snd_info_register

[ 19.443580] snd_timer: Unknown symbol snd_info_free_entry

and many more

It seems like the sound-modules are missing, I only have one file in the sound-folder:

ls -l /lib/modules/2.6.24-12-generic/kernel/sound/
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4632 2008-03-08 08:12 ac97_bus.ko

Having the same problems as reported above.

Sound was working in 2.6.24-11, but after the update - no sound.

Sorry, forgot to add using AMD64 version. Thougb it looks like this bug affects all versions.
