Some issue related with gnome-settings-daemon I just would like to know how to switch off this weird tic tac sound in the background.

New installation, after receiving updates, on booting next day, gnome applet failed to start (desktop with no calender, no clock, no user switcher, no desktop switcher in bottom panel).
Opened terminal to run apt-get update and apt-get upgrade when bug reporting began.

can confirm this bug
happened more than once to me but seems very random

if i start into a session without desktops/time/trash and other pannels, i just logout and login again.

forgot to add that i'm using intrepid.. i never observed this with hardy
