Bug Description

Ubuntu Release:
Description: Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
Release: 8.04
Ubuntu 2.6.22-14.52-generic

After updating from 7.10 to 8.04 with all the newest updates i installed the proprietary hardware drivers which Ubuntu suggested to install. But whenever i reboot my system, Ubuntu will tell me it have to run in low graphics mode. And i cant get my resolution to 1280 by 1024.

The only way i can make my monitor to work under the right resolution is to reboot in recovery mode, and restore X server. Then i'll resume booting, but this way i cant get a second monitor to run or anything.

The weirdest thing is that i haven't had any problems in 7.10 with the resolutions or anything. It took some time to get there but eventually i got there, even the second monitor. But i tried everything in 8.04 but with no avail.

My video graphics card is a: Sparkle Nvidia GeForce 6600GT
And i have 2 * 19" LCD Monitors of the brand Acer AL1922

I hope i gave enough information here, if anyone need anything more, please ask. And sorry if my English is a bit poor :D

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please attach your X server configuration file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the "Attachment:" box below. Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf and let Xorg autodetect your display and video card? Please also attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt.

Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem.

Card is Nvidia GeForce 6600GT
Two Princeton 19" panel screens.

This setup had problems initially in 7.10, but installing the new Nvidia driver with Envy and configuring with nvidia-settings worked - back then. No longer.

When I run the nvidia-settings, I get the following error:

You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server.

Hardware Drivers shows that :
NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (latest cards) is enabled and in use.

sudo gksu displayconfig-gtk (Screens and Graphics) fails every test. The Graphics Card tab shows NVIDIA GeForce 6 Series as the card, but the driver is vesa.

Since I can only provide one attachment at a time, here is my Xorg.0.log.

I have spent the best part of today looking for clues to this: from what I have seen on the irc and forums, it may be wider spread than the two of us posting here.

I will eagerly be following this thread. Please let me know if there is further information I may contribute to help this along.

Very sincerely,
Matt

Please rename ticket. Driver is not nidia - it is nvidia. Typo my hide bug from others looking to report it.

This might be better:

Nvidia GeForce 6600GT Drivers, never getting the right resolutions, only when booting in safe mode.
