I've unduplicated this, as Bug #252630 is wl driver specific.

This is still happening with current hardy proposed - linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-21-generic 2.6.24-21.27

Booting to the 2.6.24-19, everything works fine.

Booting to the proposed kernel, the device is detected but will not connect to any wireless network. When attempting to connect, both 'terminals' on the network manager icon remain blue with the spinning thing spining around them.

This was resolved, although rt73 chipset devices are still having issues as per Bug #258985 and others.
