Bug Description

Binary package hint: konqueror

Using Kubuntu Hardy, I could use the konqueror web shortcut, and write both "gg: ubuntu", "GG: ubuntu" and "gG: ubuntu" in the location bar and get a google search for ubuntu.

However in Intrepid I get an error message that says:

protocol not supported
gg

if I write gG: ubuntu in the location bar.

So while the actual search for a match in the web shortcuts aren't case-insensitve, the error message uses the lowercase of the protocol. I suspect that this is caused by the switch from KDE3 to KDE4.

When I put "gg: ubuntu" into the adresbar it actually searches for "gg ubuntu" with ubuntu Jaunty. So I think this bug is now invalid at least for (K)ubuntu. Or do you still have problems with the latest version?

Hi,

I don't use (K)Ubuntu any more and I can't test if the bug is still valid.

My understanding is that Ubuntu changed the default behaviour of the text
entered in the URL bar. I would not considered it as closed, because the point
of the bug report is "web shortcuts are case-insensitive" and what you are
pointing is that the default behaviour disables the web shortcuts.

Regards,

I can confirm that the bug is still present in Jaunty.

Just after upgrade, if I wrote gG: ubuntu in the location bar, it would search for "gG: ubuntu", which is not the desired result. The desired result is to search for "ubuntu" only.

After going to Settings -> Configure Konqueror -> Web Shortcuts, and changing the Default search engine to none, konqueror reverts to the previous behavior, of displaing protocol not supported, instead of searching for the entire string.

Hi there!

Thanks for reporting this bug! Your bug seems to be a problem with the KDE program itself, and not with our KDE packages. But don't worry! This issue is being tracked by the KDE developers at: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=169801
Once fixed in KDE, it will be included in Kubuntu once the KDE version the fix is in in reaches Kubuntu.

Thanks!
