Bug Description

Binary package hint: apport

Hello,
when an application crashed, apport tells me about it (if I enabled it) which is great.
But often debug packages make sense, often a crash appears more times, and if after the first crash the debug packages are installed, then are better backtraces possible. So after the first crash apport should say that it could make sense to install debug packages and install them with one click, if the user wants to. (Similar to the automatically download of codecs in totem for example).
Thanks in advance.

Thank you for taking time to report this bug. Since this is not a real bug but a feature request we will set the importance to "wishlist". I think it would be a good idea to suggest this on http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/, too since that place is especially for ideas.

I reported this to kde
[Bug 212823] apport-kde doesn't know how to determine dbg packages for a crash dump
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=212823

The upshot of the reply was that Ubuntu/OpenSuse use apport instead of KDE 4.4's DrKonqi, which "includes an option to automatically install the missing debug packages to get a good backtrace".
