gconftool-2 turns living people into wormfood

Bug Description

Dear Desktop Team,

please consider to make gconftool-2 tad faster, because as it stands now
it takes over 20MB of RAM and 5 minutes per run on a 32 CPU machine with 16GB of RAM, when a full ubuntu kernel build takes about 3 minutes and 37 seconds.

Considering the amount of time that thing is called on each upgrade, by body will be dead and turn into wormfood at the end of an upgrade leaving me without the pleasure of testing dapper.

Thanks
Fabio
