Bug Description

I've configured xorg for dual screen usage, it worked in breezy with this config. When activating the external screen and starting X with a monitor plugged in the server crashes after a few seconds, no signal on the external monitor, but on startup external monitor flickers. Without external monitor no crash occures. Without external screen activated and monitor plugged in no crash occures.

I'll attach xorg.conf

Some more details about the behaviour:
In both cases
#Screen 1 "External Screen" RightOf "Default Screen"
is commented out

When not commenting out
Option "MonitorLayout" "LVDS, TMDS"
and no external monitor is attached, bug #28004 occures (completely unuseable configuration).

When commenting out
#Option "MonitorLayout" "LVDS, TMDS"
and an external monitor is attached, clone mode is activated. I getthe message: there is a panel already running, i'm quitting a dozned times and end up having no panel at all.

The panel bug is unrelated...had other reasons...

Hi iroli,

Could you test to see if this issue still exists with a newer version of Ubuntu? If possible, it would be great if you could test it against Gutsy; there are Live CD ISOs available for downloading at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/gutsy/. The version of Xorg in Gutsy has had lots of work to improve display hotplugging, so this issue may be resolved now.
