Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Just wanted to briefly report a positive test case. I upgraded form Intrepid to Jauntu two days ago on an old Compaq Evo D510 SFF desktop machine with the notoriously buggy Intel i845. X would not start except in low graphics mode. The I added the xorg-edgers into my sources.list, updated and everything was fine after that. Thanks to the "xorg crack pushers" for that and sorry for being so laconic — a bit busy now. If in need of more info, please ask.

Hi piraja,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

I had similar issue with Intel 915 GM chipset using Ubuntu 9.04 beta.
(See: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/354735)

My problem was solved after update xserver-xorg-video-intel to 2:2.6.3-0ubuntu4 to version 5.

Run Update Manager, install xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.6.3-0ubuntu5,
and report if it fix the bug you reported.

 Thanks.

@VangelistX: Thanks, I think the problematic version was 2:2.6.3-0ubuntu4 and xorg-edgers package was version 5. The latest seems to be 2:2.6.30ubuntu8 — I'm just going to update to that. As far as I am concerned, the bug seems to be fixed — I will report if the latest version has the old issues (which is highly improbable, I guess) or new ones.

Sorry for tarrying with my response.

I don't seem to have a relevant Xorg.log file from March 26, when I upgraded to Jaunty and the issue occurred. I guess there I cannot reproduce the issue any longer, since I do not know how to downgrade to version 4 (and I'm not sure there is any point to that).
