[g35] intel G35 fails to start gdm on Jaunty Beta

Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I am using Jaunty beta LiveCD i386 and intel G35 motherboard, ASUSTeK P5E-V HDMI.

On booting, my system seems to crash X some time.
I see text-login-mode in a few seconds.

And I got the following dialogue.
"The greeter application appears to be crashing. Attempting to use a different one."

Press OK, then gdm is back.

In xforcevesa, my system boots smoothly.

Thank you for reporting this, it helps make Ubuntu better. Did you install Jaunty Alpha before? If so, did it work as expected? I'll mark this as incomplete for now.

I installed Alpha before on LiveUSB made by usb-creator,
and face the other problem.

In Alpha LiveUSB gdm starts nomally, but ubiquity cause X crash.

I tried daily-live 20090402 with xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.6.3-0ubuntu4.
2 of 5 times, X crashed before gdm.
the rest times X does NOT crashed.

I used jaunty daily-live 20090410 with xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.6.3-0ubuntu9.

At 8 of 8 times, X never crashed on boot.

I attached a log.

Nobuto, if I understand your last message correctly, this problem was fixed somewhere between 2:2.6.3-0ubuntu4 and 2:2.6.3-0ubuntu9. I'm therefore closing this bug. If this is not correct, please reopen the bug by setting its status back to "Confirmed".
