We are a few to have the same problem when we switched from 8.04 to 8.10, we started to have some wifi problem. After a random amount of time, the computer freezes. The mouse, the keyboard, the sound card, videocard, everything is stuck. It only happen when we are connected to the internet via the Wifi. It might be related to the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG since we all have this card.

Hi regre,

Care to test a few things first:

1) try installing linux-backports-modules-intrepid - it contains an updated compat-wireless stack as of master-2009-03-04

2) if that fails, can you confirm the issue remains on the latest pre-release of Jaunty 9.04 - currently Beta -
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/jaunty/beta . You should be able to test via a LiveCD.

3) In Jaunty, linux-backports-modules-jaunty also provides an updated compat-wireless stack as of master-2009-03-24. It would be good to test that too if items 1 or 2 don't work.

Please let us know your results. Thanks.

For the moment the option 1 seems to be working.

I installed via synaptic
linux-backports-modules-intrepid 2.6.27.11.14 ( it will ask you to install the 2 other programs)
linux-backports-modules-intrepid-generic 2.6.27.11.14
linux-backports-modules-intrepid-2.6.27.11-generic 2.6.27.11.12

and my computer didn't crashed for 2 hours non-stop while using the wifi. i'll keep you posted if the problem reappear. Thank you VERY much!!!!

( I'll also check with the other if it solve their problem ! )
