Bug Description

Calc (apcalc) does not accept comma "," as decimal separator. This makes it very slow to enter decimal numbers in many non-US keyboards, such as the Finnish (fi) keyboard. In Finnish keyboard, number pad (on the right side of keyboard) only has comma and no dot.

$ calc
; 2,2+1,1
Line 3: unused value ignored
Line 3: unused value ignored
        1

It only accepts the US decimal separator:
; 2.2+1.1
        3.3

Have you gotten a reply from upstream? I can't seem to find a link to neither a bug tracker nor a mailing list archive.

Also, have you read the discussion at: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=353452 ?

I must agree with Debian here (ie. we should reject it). What do others think?

I agree with William. Implementing this would mean a significant syntax change, which is something that has to happen upstream. My guess is that upstream won't implement it (for reasons explained in the debian page), an in any case this has been hanging around for a year with no resolution.

So I'm going to reject this bug. Don't feel shy about reopening it if you disagree!

William, Dan: No problem. It would best if upstream calc would use comma as decimal separator and semicolon to separate records.
