Bug Description

I went to a page which required the Flash player with epiphany, and it suggested me to install the plugin, i just had to click.

But ... nothing happens ...

I think we should remove the "Click here to download plugin." and replace it by a better label (like "You must have the correct plugin to view this."), or re-activate the plugin system.

I agree, it would be great if epiphany could explain how to install the plugin's package using synaptic, or even better, propose to download and install it.

I agree. This technique seems to be the subject of several specifications, notably easy-codec-installation, and I've added it to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/CommonInstallHook

It's also a bug in other browsers, so for a start I'm opening a task on firefox.

I'm confirming this bug.

In Firefox: Firefox already says install missing plugins, but this fails! (e.g. java and flash). This is not very professional.

Firefox should be able to work together with the package manager and install the package.

This need some development on the plugin finder service. Though upstream cannot directly make use of that feature, there should probably be hooks in upstream code to allow distributors to extend plugin finder service in such a way, that users get suggestions on packages as well.

Now that Ubufox exists (for Firefox at least), couldn't this bug be marked as fixed ?

Epiphany is not. I just tested Hardy Alpha 3. Gobuntu uses epiphany by default, so I tested this. Epiphany still exhibits this bug ( also mentioned in Bug #32294 - that bug has an upstream link to http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=301465 ).

The goals of http://live.gnome.org/Epiphany/FeatureDesign/PluginInstallation would seem to be achieved by creating an epiphany add-on that provided the equivalent functionality to that already present in Firefox.
