UniChrome Pro IGP not shown in lspci; X doesn't work

Bug Description

I have tried Dapper Flight CD5 install disk on a new system at work. Graphics card is not shown in "lspci" at all, so I can't even use "vga" or "vesa" drivers in xorg.conf. Passing "vga=0x317" via kernel boot line works, but I still can't get into X with any of the drivers.

Windows identifies the device with PCI ID 1106 (vendor) and 3344 (device), which turns out to be: P4M800Pro or VN800 or K8N800 VIA chipset.

Note that I have tried with both "via" drivers from unichrome.sf.net and openchrome.org, but neither works. This probably makes sense, since for everybody else reporting bugs about it, this card is at least listed in "lspci".

Also, I have tried Ubuntu Hoary (5.04) live CD using 2.6.10-5-i386, and this worked for me with "vesa" driver (however, /proc/bus/pci/devices was empty there, so I couldn't see if this was due to "lspci" showing, or just "vesa" driver falling-back to int10 interface).

Ok, this appears to be a problem with chipset: I've added ATI Radeon 9250, and it's not shown in lspci either.

See if you can revert to default settings in your BIOS. Also try pci=noacpi to see if that helps.

pci=noacpi doesn't help.

Reverting BIOS settings doesn't either.

I also posted this to VIA Arena forums:
http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.aspx?catid=28&threadid=71408&STARTPAGE=1

A guy there suggested to look for BIOS option "Enable Interrupt 19", but my BIOS doesn't have that one.

Resolved using "pci=conf1" (as advised on forums above).

Should I mark this as fixed (since it's not actually; this is a workaround)?

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this linux-source-2.6.15 kernel bug to the new "linux" package. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Also, if you would be interested in testing the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release, it is available at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . Please let us know your results. Thanks!

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : Kernel team bugs

Per a decision made by the Ubuntu Kernel Team, bugs will longer be assigned to the ubuntu-kernel-team in Launchpad as part of the bug triage process. The ubuntu-kernel-team is being unassigned from this bug report. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies for more information. Thanks.
