Bug Description

Ubuntu 9.04
pidgin 1:2.5.5-1ubuntu8.1

Pidgin does not remove partial file (msn protocol - other protocols untested atm)

Pidgin saves the file with its actual name to the location that the user specifies. Unlike other programs, pidgin does not use /tmp until the file is complete. The name of the file on the desktop does not offer any indication that it is partial. Removing a partial/canceled file does not remove the partial file. User is not properly notified of status of download.

Steps to reproduce:
Connect to msn
Get a buddy
Attachment sent from buddy
You accept attachment
Buddy cancels file mid way
Partial files are still kept instead of being automatically removed (clicking remove does not delete the partial or propose to delete the partial)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Do you get the same with Lucid or Maverick? Thanks in advance.

Still experienced this issue in maverick using pidgin and empathy. Should partial files be kept since they could not be resumed? Do they confuse users who think it might be a complete file. Should these programs use the Firefox approach of downloading to a .part file and then renaming?
