Bug Description

This bug is not new. But I opening it because when I tried to reopen the bug which which people thought was fixed (but which still persisted for me), someone advised that I rather open a new one. The bug I'm referring to is https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/216197.
This bug relates to the world clock applet in the gnome-panel which also shows weather when configured to do so.
Before 8.10 I could see the weather conditions of both manually added locations and locations which were already in the list (whether I was behind proxy or directly connected to internet). After upgrading to intripid only locations in the list worked I did nto get weather report for location which I manually added by inserting their name/longitude/latitude manually. Now in jaunty none works when I'm working behind a proxy- but this is a different upstream bug (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=579434).
The reason I am opening this bug is that the clock applet is unable to show whether of manually added locations even when one is directly connected to the internet. This used to work fine in hardy both when directly connected to the internet and when connected from behind a proxy (which doesn't work any more, even for locations in the list).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Lucid Lynx. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

In Karmic we see the weather info for locations which are already in the list (they fixed the upstream bug: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=579434). But I'm still unable to get information for location which I have added manually added in Karmic.

I will get/download a CD of the development release when I get the time and report back in some days..

I confirm this bug is still present in lucid alpha-2. I am working from behind a proxy and I do not get the weather information for manually added locations, location already present in the list do show weather info. I not able to directly connect to the internet at present so can't tell whether it will work when directly connected. May be someone else here can check what's the status when directly connected to the internet.

I also have the same issue but with Karmic Koala. This bug is likely a duplicate of bug #447570

Still reproducible on Lucid Alpha-3. The location is "Saint Petersburg, Russia"

When I had just installed Lucid, the weather did display but, seemingly, after a reboot it went away. When I hover a mouse over the current date and it gets outlined, I can see some blank space to the left of the date which is presumably taken up by "empty" weather data (this blank space goes away when I disable showing the weather and temperature.) Screenshot attached.

Actually today ubuntu (Lucid, of early morning March 14) started without the weather information getting pulled.

I am connected directly to the internet, and if I add my hometown manually, no weather is displayed. If I choose a town nearby from the list, it works without problems.
