For this series of hardware it seems that certain revision numbers are plug and play when others require ndiswrapper and the windows driver to work. I have started a thread for the dwl-g122 here, where a few recommendations were made. I would recommend that you post the same information requested in the thread onto this bug.

affects: ubuntu → linux (Ubuntu)
Changed in linux (Ubuntu):

Thank you for your recommendation,

the wireless card does not need ndiswrapper to run, on a SuSE distribution with 2.27 kernel working properly with this firmware http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/p54#firmware

http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/p54/devices this is the card suported an my card is:

D-Link DWL-G120 Spinnaker ISL3886 0x2001 0x3701

thankz

I have been experiencing this problem too since the 9.04 upgrade, but it's only because of this reported problem that I realized it is from the G120 USB wireless card. So thank you so much for posting this.

I just tested it, and the machine boots fine without the wireless card attached. I have also confirmed that this somehow prevents a shutdown/reboot--although the entire shutdown process occurs and unmounts volumes, just not the part where the machine shuts off or reboots.

If I use a 2.26 kernel this doesn't happen. This only happens with 2.27 and 2.28.

If I use a 2.6.26 kernel this doesn't happen. This only happens with 2.6.27 and 2.6.28.

I am sorry, I was wrong: the last kernel I know that has worked is 2.6.24

Confirmed, also with DLink DWL-G120 USB (H/W Ver B1)

This is due to wrong firmware from linux-firmware packages (in /lib/firmware)... Please see bug report #437515 and report there, as karmic is now the current development release

So marked this one as a duplicate..
