Bug Description

Binary package hint: libtiff4

Image viewers and image manipulation software raise always the same error whenever I try to open, view or manipulate certain tiff images. The error message is always the same:

tif_jpeg.c:1505: JPEGCleanup: Assertion `sp != 0' failed.

I first got this error with tiff images from scans made with xsane. The same images definitely worked before the last update. I am using Ubuntu 5.10. Current version of libtiff is libtiff4 3.7.3-1ubuntu1.1

I downloaded test-images from http://www.remotesensing.org/libtiff/images.html
and the image quad-jpeg.tif raises the same error. most of the other images work.

The same tiff images are perfectly viewable with eog on Ubuntu 5.10 started from the Live CD.

So far I was able to reproduce the error with eog, qiv, display, gimp, identify and mogrify. I installed libtiff-tools and the error is also in tiffinfo and tiff2pdf. tiffdump gives me normal output. Nautilus also seems to crash because of this.

Trying to convert a jpeg into a tiff with convert (ImageMagick) also fails with the same error.

Please, can you check if this still reproducible on edgy?
