I can't boot with Karmic kernel, because it crashes at startup, therefore I use Jaunty kernel for booting.

I had to reinstall ubuntu after upgrading from 9.04, because the Kernel didn't work. But with a newly instalation the sound problem is the same... I have to force Alsa to reload if I want the sound works.

On beta live CD of ubuntu 9.10 sound worked fine. I didn't try final version. Reloading of alsa doesn't make sense with ubuntu 9.04 kernel, however I'm at least able to work with old kernel.
I tried this recommendation to get to work 9.10 kernel http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1305459&page=5 but I got response, that I miss something related to kernel sources.

@Andis: You have to open a new report about kernel crashing (are you sure it's crashing? Maybe problem is somewhere else, the page you have linked is about configuring X system) at startup, unfortunately there is no official/supported way to get sound (and few other things) working on 2.6.28 kernel after upgrade..
@Luis: Your problem is completely different

Yes, the problem comes from X system, which crashes during startup leaving flickering login prompt, which is useless, because it's impossible to enter password.

I'm not an expert in Linux, therefore just deactivated Nvidia drivers after booting with old 9.04 kernel (first I activated v.173 driver and then deactivated it, because for some reason I couldn't deactivete v.185 directly) then I reboot with the new 9.10 kernel, first to recovery mode, then in normal way. Now I have sound and touchpad is also working. But, of course, video quality is poor. I hope, that soon there will be updates to solve this problem.
