Bug Description

Binary package hint: exaile

Latest Exaile (default installation in Karmic) does not work with music applet. Replacing it with the version in Jaunty repositories makes it work again.

To reproduce:
- Add music applet to the panel.
- Test it's functionality with Rhythmbox.
- Install Exaile from Karmic repositories.
- Right click Music applet and select Exaile as the preferred plugin.
- Click Music applet icon on the panel.

This last step launches Exaile but Music applet does not see it running so it does not bring up media keys.

This should probably be filed in the music player applet instead. Exaile 0.3 changed its API and the music player applet in Jaunty doesn't support it yet. Upstream Exaile will not go back to the 0.2 API so it makes more sense to make the change in the music player applet.

I'm not familiar with this applet though. Someone please help me file it there.

There are a number of applets that you might be describing. Could you be more specific? What package did you install to get it?

Andrew,

Specifically, packages are music-applet (2.5.0-0ubuntu3) and exaile (0.3.0.1-0ubuntu6). Same music-applet version + exaile (0.2.14-0ubuntu2)) are still happily together in Karmic as they are in Jaunty.

In addition, configuring music-applet exaile plugin to use D-Bus Activation doesn't help.

I made a fix music-applet (2.5.0-0ubuntu3) that work with exaile 0.3.0.1
This fix works fine with me except song rating is not working.
To use this fix just copy the attachment to "/usr/share/python-support/music-applet/musicapplet/plugins/" directory. Then select fixed plugin from menu.
