Bug Description

I discovered this bug when encountering bug Bug #459275 . In applying the work around, I was able to get a fax installed. However, it does not go "off hook" to obtain dial tone to fax. Communication to the printer is present, phone line attached and manual faxing works as well as Windows Vista faxing (via ethernet). No USB cable connected. Observations noted in post against bug 459275:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/459275/comments/19 ( one typo, the printer does print and scan but no fax)

Added fax test output indicating a working fax component of the L7580 printer. Sure seems like a driver issue to me.

Installed hplip 3.9.10, printer works, scanner works but fax does not work. Still does not go "off hook" to dial out.

HP Officejet Pro L7580 connected via ethernet.

hp-check -t output below:

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Saving output in log file: hp-check.log

Updated HPLIP to 3.9.12. Everything installed fine, version running is 3.9.12. I have attached an updated hp-check.log file showing no warnings and no errors.

Scanning works, printing works but the printer will not go "off-hook" to send a fax. I can manually send a fax if I enter the numbers on the keypad, but through the driver, printer never goes "off hook".

Any ideas?

I tried The HP Photosmart Premium with Fax and installed HPLIP 3.11.1 from sourceforge. Nevertheless everything except PC-Fax works.
