This bug affects me in 0.8.1-6 as well.

The issue has changed in the last few days. Instead of always being dark, it is now sometimes dark and sometimes at full brightness. The unexpected behaviour of the brightness level not changing immediately, is still present.

This is because of a change in the xserver which broke this functionality in SDL:

I have an Intel graphic card too. The reason we are the ones reporting this bug coul be due the Intel cards have problems whith binary assembling, or the kernel

This bug affects me. I'm using an Intel i910 and running Ubuntu Lucid. This bug seems to be a conscious decision by the Xorg developers.

The bug is most likely just a side effect of the change.

Anyway, it would be great if someone with knowledge of X (and SDL) could assist the developers:

This bug also affects OpenArena 0.8.5-7 on Ubuntu 11.04 with kernel 2.6.38-11 (32 bits).

I have try PC's with Intel GPU (GMA950) and ATi GPU with open-source drivers (Radeon 9600Pro & Xpress 200 IGP). These are all affected. Playing the game in a window (not full-screen) does not make the brightness-setting work.

Systems with nVidia GPU & closed source drivers are NOT affected. On these systems, the in-game brightness setting works correctly.
