Bug Description

Binary package hint: istanbul

Opening Istanbul gives me the record icon on the system tray. Left clicking the icon records, I suppose. When I left click the icon again to stop recording, a dialog pops out very briefly then Istanbul crashes.

I get this

istanbul: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.

Happens with Lucid Lunx as well. Don't know how to apply the fixes cited by Jean-Paul Calderone. Where may I obtain that upstream package, please? {/noob}

Didn't work to me... I modified the files suggested... But Still have de same problem... On terminal:

The program 'istanbul' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadIDChoice (invalid resource ID chosen for this connection)'.
  (Details: serial 3142 error_code 14 request_code 1 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I get exactly the same behaviour once I have run a VM. After a reboor I can record to hearts content, as soon as I fire up a VM I get the same error.

Interestingly, if I try and record with FFMP, either on the host or in the VM I get an identical error.

I tried Istanbul in both the vm and the host and get the same error.

If I close the VM Istanbul still fails, and I need to reboot to get it to work again.

Hello all!

I found some solution - bug still present, but I know hove save video before istanbul crashes!

It's write video to /tmp/ and in console verbose file name, like this

location=/tmp/tmp2pfLhE

When istanbul crahed file still present and it's normal video file, just rename it (tmp2pfLhE.avi) and view!!!

Confirm the bug for Ubuntu Lucid. It also doesn't record sound and mouse pointer either. Will try XvdiCap.

I found a workaround, if you delete the video files from previous recordings in /tmp it works again.
