Bug Description

$ lspci | grep Wireless
02:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)
$ uname -r
2.6.32-16-generic

My wireless connection is very unstable. Network-manager has to reconnect every few seconds. I tried it on a few WPA (2) networks and it's the same on each. I also tried 2.6.33 from Ubuntus mainline Kernel repository and it had the same problems.

After installung and using wicd, giving me a mostly stable connection, it occurs to me that this may be a bug in network-manager, not in the kernel. Thus, I marked network-manager as also affected.

I'm running network-manager{,-gnome} 0.8-0ubuntu2.

Hi Felix,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 535424

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

The issue still exists and also happens on 2.6.34-rc{4,5} from mainline PPA.

I have similar problem.

I have ACER Aspire 3680-2682 laptop with Atheros 5007EG Wi-Fi adapter.

After short time of work it disconnects from W-Fi network.

What is worst, it does not connect back automatically.

In 9.04 and 9.10 after disconnect, it starts connecting automatically.

In alpha and beta versions on 10.04 there was no such problem with disconnections.

But after installing 10.04 release I have notised that after disconnection the Network Manager does not start connecting again.

I am not sure, whether the problem is with Atheros drivers in kernel or it is the Network Manager issue.

But it really affects me.

I am thinking on switching back to 9.10

I have Asus EEE 1005P netbook with ubuntu UNR 10.04 2.6.32-22 generic with Atheris AR9285 wireless chip using the ath9k driver
I can use my wireless with a WPA (16 byte password).
However when I used a 64 byte hex password the system drops the connection every second.
The gnome network applet says the speed is 1 Mb/s while I have an N router.
