Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-session

The "xterm failsafe session" located in /usr/share/xsessions/xterm.desktop has the X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=gdm entry in order to use the translations from /usr/share/locale-langpack/xx/LC_MESSAGES/gdm.mo. However, the "Name=xterm" and "Comment=Failsafe session with only xterm" can't be translated because there aren't in the Launchpad template.

The following query returns nothing:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/gnome-session/+pots/gnome-session-2.0/es/+translate?batch=10&show=all&search=xterm

We need to include i18n facility for, at least, the Comment= key, so we can translate the "Failsafe session with only xterm" string.

I attach an screenshot of the GDM Setup application, which you can see all the session names translated except the "failsafe xterm" one.

Indeed, it needs to be marked for translation.

I should probably open a new bug for this, but I'll mention it here for the record: the onboard.desktop file should also be marked for translation.

In any case, I think the part that will take more work is to rename the files to .desktop.in and make sure a) translations are extracted and b) the .desktop files are build. This will probably need to be done somewhere in debian'/rules. Marking strings for translation in both files is the easy part and can be done for both in one go.

This patch renames the .desktop files, adds translation marks to them, and changes the rules file to build desktop files from desktop.in files.

Also, POTFILES.in should contain the new files.
